National Dentist's Day & World Oral Health Day
March 6th is National Dentist’s Day and March 20th is World Oral Health Day. We want to celebrate both.
A happy mouth is a happy life. Your oral health plays a very important part in your overall health from childhood through your adult years. By taking care of your teeth and having other regular healthy habits, you can live, eat, smile, and speak with confidence.
Here are some things you can do to help us celebrate (and some funny real-life stories).
How to celebrate National Dentist’s Day and World Oral Health Day
- Smile and show off those pearly whites!
- Challenge yourself to have better dental habits.
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily.
- Next time you’re at your dentist’s office, take a picture with your favorite dentist and post it on your social media or send it to us, and we will post it on ours.
- You can even add the hashtag #NationalDentistsDay
Did you know?
Did you know that being a dentist is ranked as one of the best jobs to have? Here at Mid Cities Dental, we love what we do and want to help you have the best dental experience at our office. Give our office a call today to set up your cleaning appointment.
A few funny stories:
Sometimes getting a patient to listen is, well, it’s like pulling teeth!
Front office staff story: calling a patient about their upcoming dental appointment:
Front office: “Hi …., this is Sara from your dentist’s office, calling to remind you about your dental appointment tomorrow at 10:00 am.”
Patient: “I can’t come tomorrow because I already have an appointment scheduled at my dentist’s office at that time. Can I reschedule?”
Front office: “This is your dentist’s office calling you now to remind you of that appointment tomorrow.” (gentle laugh)
Patient: “Oh, I didn’t hear that part (laughing). Yes, I will be there.”
Misreading the Signs
My friend worked at the front desk of a dentist’s office. The dentist specialized in dental implants. The office was in a busy shopping center with lots of foot traffic. On the office’s front window, in big letters, it said Dentist Office, the dentist’s name, and the words Dental Implants below that. A lady walked in to ask how much the implants would cost. My friend gave the basic info: “Well, the costs can vary and may depend on things like your insurance coverage and how many implants you will need. We can schedule an appointment to go over all this with the dentist.” The person had a totally baffled look on their face and said, “Why do I need to see a dentist first?” That’s when she said, “Well, this is a dentist’s office, and you are interested in dental implants, right?” No, they were looking for a different kind of implant. From that day forward, if anyone walked in and asked the same question (it happened multiple times), the front office staff made sure that the potential patient knew they were discussing teeth implants from the beginning of the conversation.
The Patient Side of Things
My hygienist thinks she’s funny.
Hygienist: “You have a couple of cavities that need to be filled.”
Patient: “I don’t understand how that happened. I have been brushing a lot!”
Hygienist: “Which end of the brush are you using?”
We both laughed.
Don’t you know why you are here?
As a dentist, I hear this story a lot.
Dentist: “Hi …., so why are you here today?”
Male patient: “I have no idea.”
Dentist: “How do you not know why you’re at the dentist’s office?”
Male patient: “Well, my wife scheduled the appointment.”
Dentist: “Do you think it might have something to do with getting your regular check-up and teeth cleaning, or do you have another issue?
Male Patient: “Maybe the first option?”
Dentist: “I can get my Random Choice wheel out, and you can spin it to see if we pull a tooth, do a root canal, or something different. What do you say?”
Male Patient: “No thanks. I think I’ll just have my teeth cleaned.”
Dentist: Great! Now that you know why you’re here, let’s get to it.”
Some dentist jokes:
- What was the tooth called that went to Oxford University? The Wisdom Tooth.
- What do dentists call their X-rays? Tooth pics.
- What do tuba players use to brush their teeth? A tuba toothpaste.
