Broken Tooth or Lost Teeth
Services We Offer - Broken Tooth

What to do first if you have tooth that's been knocked out
Step 1
If your tooth has been knocked out, try to place the tooth back in its socket while waiting to see your dentist.
Step 2
Rinse your mouth of any blood or other debris and place a cold cloth or compress on your cheek near the injury. This will keep down swelling.
Step 3
If you cannot get the tooth back in its socket, hold the dislocated tooth by the crown – not the root and place it in a container of saline or in your own saliva (or hold the tooth in your mouth) to keep it moist. Keep it in the solution until you arrive at the emergency room or dentist’s office.
What should you do if you crack or chip a tooth?
If your tooth is cracked, or chipped, or a chunk of the tooth has come off, call us to make an appointment as soon as possible. Your tooth could sustain more damage the longer you don’t have it looked at by your dentist. The tooth could also become infected, which could end up with you having to have the tooth pulled out.
What to do before you can get in to see your dentist
In the meantime, try the following measures to help with pain and eating:
- Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help with pain relief.
- You can also try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water.
- If the break has caused a sharp or jagged edge, cover it with a piece of sugarless chewing gum to keep it from cutting your tongue or the inside of your lip or cheek. Another option is placing a small piece of wax over the jagged part of your tooth.
- When you eat, try to only eat soft foods such as bananas, yogurt, oatmeal, and applesauce. Foods that don’t require lots of chewing. Another option is to drink protein shakes (but not too cold or full of ice as it could cause more pain). Try to avoid biting down on the cracked, chipped, or broken tooth if possible until we can help fix the problem and relieve your pain.
Treatment of Your Broken Tooth
Treatment for your chipped, cracked, fractured, or knocked-out tooth will depend on how bad the damage is. If only a small piece of your tooth broke off, the repair for that is simply. But if you have a broken tooth or knocked out tooth, you have a few options to fix it that may require multiple appointments over a period of time.
Here are some ways your dentist may repair your broken, cracked, chipped, or fractured tooth.
- Dental Crown or Bridges
